Exploring Engadin in Autumn

Earlier this month we took a short trip to do some biking and hiking in Engadin. I’d been two or three times in this region, but only in Winter and pretty much only in, and immediately around, St. Moritz. The plan for this trip was to explore a bit more.

We left things fairly open, with the basic idea that we’d be travelling by train, bus, bike and foot. We’d start and finish in our apartment in Laax, and we booked a couple of nights in a hotel in Madulain and another night in a hotel in Scuol. In the end this is how it played out:

Starting in Laax, we cycled to Ilanz where we caught the train to St. Moritz. Cycled to Madulain and checked into the hotel. Biked to Pontresina and back in the afternoon. Finished the day with dinner in La Punt.

Caught the train to Morterasch and explored the glacial valley on foot. Back on the train for lunch in Alp Grüm. Hiked back Diavolezza where we caught the train back to Madulain. Met up with some friends for evening drinks and food in Zuoz.

Bike day. Following bike paths either along the river Inn or darting into the towns overlooking the river, we made our way first for lunch in Lavin and then continued to Scuol.

Caught the train back to Ilanz via Landquart and Chur. Cycled back up to Laax.

We had fantastic weather, which is always a bonus, but really enjoyed exploring this part of Switzerland.
